Have you seen the future? Introducing Lotus Sametime 7.5. This new version includes more than 100 new features and represents a major upgrade in instant messaging and Web conferencing capabilities. Public IM Connectivity. IBM is working with leaders in the public instant messaging market to help Lotus Sametime users securely connect with public instant messaging communities. IBM Teams for Integrated Audio and Video. Supporting IBM in this area are a number of industry leaders including Avaya, Nortel, Polycom, Premiere Global Services, Siemens and Tandberg. Introducing IBM Lotus Sametime 7.5 Sametime 7.5's new user interface provides an attractive "look and feel" and also sports enhanced security features, privacy settings, smiley faces, location awareness capabilities and embedded VoIP capabilities. Sametime 7.5 is also planned to simplify connections with other instant messaging platforms. In 2006, IBM plans to add client support for Apple's Mac OS X version 10.4 "Tiger" and Linux. Expanded platform support for Lotus Sametime extends Lotus Sametime to new classes of users. IBM Lotus Sametime is built on the Eclipse open source framework, so users get access to new "plug-in" capabilities, like audio/video extensions, "mapping" applications and corporate calendar integration. Lotus Sametime 7.5's new Web conferencing user interface makes it easier to create and manage Web conferences, will give multiple presenters the ability to edit/modify presentations on the fly and will automatically reconnect users who get disconnected due to a network disruption or disconnection. Businesses can tap into the collective knowledge of their employees through instant polls, focused broadcasts to members of a specific community, context-sensitive chat rooms and the automated capture and storage of ad-hoc information that can be searched for future reference. Lotus Sametime 7.5 will also feature a multi-protocol gateway to increase the ease and manageability of enterprise-to-enterprise and enterprise-to-public network connections. The gateway will initially be based on Session Initiation Protocol.
